Soothing Spirals

When I was suffering from complex PTSD and going through a high conflict divorce, painting spirals could calm my overactive nervous system, slow down my racing thoughts, and ground me in the sacrament of the present moment with Jesus. Finger painting spirals with acrylic paint, mixing dark colors with white paint, was especially grounding. The beautiful results was an added bonus!

Shining Spirals: Acrylic white and metallic colors swirled with my fingers on black paper. Painting with my hands on rough paper added to the tactile experience.

Spirals can so easily become beautiful roses! Cover the canvas with a thick layer of white acrylic paint; with your finger swirl dark pink acrylic in small spirals; add green leaves. Play Marian hymns or an audio Rosary as you finger paint a lovely reminder of her heavenly rose garden.
